| | Description | Indian Shawl Stoles with Kashmir embroidery have unique charm. The embroidery of Kashmir probably deserves a volume by itself for sheer range and delicacy. Its application is so varied, ranging from shawls to wall hangings to rugs to garments. The craftsmen and this is one of the areas where embroidery is a male as well as a female art are inspired by the beauties of nature that surround them and turn to motifs such as the "ambia" (mango) and "boteh" (flowers) and the chinar leaves. Ari, or hook embroidery done with an awl, the famous crewel work of Kashmir, employs motifs of flower designs firmly worked in concentric rings of chain stich. A range of colors is used for this art which decorates articles such as cushion covers, bed covers and table cloths. In general, dry cleaning is the preferred method of washing these embroidered woolen shawls and stoles. To wash by hand, use cold water. After washing, do not wring dry. Simply lay it flat to dry. Once dry, you may press it with warm iron but it is best to put a piece of paper or cloth between the iron and the fabric. | |

extremely thin, almost silk-like Jan 19, 2009
By schmunzelmonster It is almost hard to believe that this is wool, not silk. It is very thin but also very warm. The color is darker than on the picture but very very elegant, with some color structure in the fabric (no structure in thickness of thread though, the fabric is smooth). The colors of the embroidery are three tones of burnt orange/dark red/dark yellow, and dark brown. Colors match anything, very neutral combination. loving it. elegant enough to be worn to any occasion. ships very fast, even though from India. Very friendly seller too. There is a reverse side and a right side, but it is nicely stitched so that it almost does not matter which way round this is worn.

Hand Embroidered Wool Shawl Nov 14, 2007

When you see, touch and feel embroidery work in a kashmiri shawl, it is hard to imagine, human hands could be so dexterous. Designs are usually floral and colors of thread very pleasing to the eyes. When you wear these shawls at public places, you simply can not avoid several heads turning towards you.
